The claimWhat Davina actually said

In a 2020 interview, McCall said that after the first night on an HRT patch she slept through the night, after years of lying on a towel because of drenching night sweats. She said she had felt ashamed to start HRT, but described it as a game changer.

Why it mattersWhy this matters for longevity

Night sweats and poor sleep are among the most common reasons women in midlife seek help, and many go untreated.

Public stigma around HRT can keep women from having an informed conversation with a clinician.

The evidenceWhat the science says

A Cochrane review of 24 randomized trials with 3,329 women found hormone therapy reduced weekly hot flash frequency by about 75 percent compared with placebo, and also reduced severity. The 2022 NAMS position statement calls hormone therapy the most effective treatment for vasomotor symptoms and notes it can improve sleep disturbed by them.

The evidence supports symptom relief, not longevity. Benefits and risks such as blood clots, stroke and breast cancer depend on age, time since menopause, the type of hormone and how it is delivered, so one person's miraculous turnaround is not a universal result.

TakeawayThe honest takeaway

The practical lesson

If night sweats are wrecking your sleep, ask a clinician whether hormone therapy fits your personal risk profile.

Support a habit, do not replace one

HRT is a prescription medicine, not a supplement. Over-the-counter menopause supplements do not have comparable trial evidence and are not a substitute for a medical assessment.

Supplements can support good habits. They do not replace sleep, movement, nutrition, or medical care. Talk with your healthcare provider before starting anything new.
