A film-shoot training block and a lifelong habit are different things, and only one of them has been studied for mortality outcomes.
The evidenceWhat the science says
A 2022 systematic review and meta-analysis in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found muscle-strengthening activity associated with roughly 10 to 17 percent lower risk of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease, total cancer and diabetes, independent of aerobic activity. A separate meta-analysis of around two million participants found measured muscular strength predicted all-cause mortality in apparently healthy people, and Cochrane's review of progressive resistance training in older adults found improvements in physical function and strength across many randomised trials.
The evidence does not support the idea that harder or longer is always better. The 2022 analysis found a J-shaped curve, with the largest mortality association at roughly 30 to 60 minutes of muscle-strengthening activity per week and no additional benefit, and some attenuation, beyond that. Nor is there evidence that circuit training specifically, or training for explosiveness specifically, extends life more than ordinary resistance training. And none of this data comes from professional performers training for stunt work; it comes from general adult populations.
