In the same talk she noted the data are observational, and said it takes about 2 grams a day on average to move the index from around 4% to 8%.

The evidenceWhat the science says
Across 17 prospective cohorts with 42,466 people followed for a median of 16 years, the highest quintile of blood EPA, DPA and DHA had 15 to 18% lower all-cause mortality than the lowest. In the Framingham Offspring cohort, the Omega-3 Index was one of four red blood cell fatty acid markers that together predicted death as well as standard risk factors. A meta-analysis of 13 trials found marine omega-3 supplements modestly lowered heart attack and coronary death.
A high Omega-3 Index also tends to reflect fish-rich diets and healthier lifestyles, which cohorts cannot fully separate out. When supplements are actually tested, a Cochrane review of 86 trials found little or no effect on all-cause mortality, and the large VITAL trial missed its main cardiovascular endpoint. Trials of fish oil also raised atrial fibrillation risk, especially at doses above 1 gram a day. No trial has shown that raising the index from 4% to 8% adds years of life.

Fish oil can raise blood omega-3 levels, but trials have not shown a clear effect on overall mortality, and higher doses are linked to atrial fibrillation. People considering doses above 1 gram a day, or who take blood thinners, should talk to a clinician first.
